Description

Our 100% Natural Coconut Oil (100ml) is unrefined and cold-pressed to preserve the antioxidants and medium-chain fatty acids that make coconut oil one of the most versatile natural products you can keep in your bathroom or kitchen cupboard. Cold-pressing means the oil is extracted without high heat or chemical solvents, which is what keeps its natural coconut aroma and nutrient content intact compared to refined, deodorised versions found in many supermarkets.

The science behind why it works

Coconut oil is made up largely of medium-chain fatty acids, particularly lauric acid, which makes up close to half its fatty acid content. Lauric acid has a smaller molecular structure than many other plant oils, which is part of why coconut oil is able to penetrate hair shafts more effectively than oils like mineral oil or even olive oil – reducing the protein loss that happens during washing and styling, rather than just coating the hair’s surface.

What it’s good for

Skin: A light, fast-absorbing moisturiser for face and body, especially in drier months, and a useful base for DIY body scrubs when mixed with sugar or salt
Hair: Use as a pre-wash treatment to reduce protein loss, or as a light leave-in for ends to combat frizz and breakage; particularly effective on curly and coily hair types prone to dryness
Makeup removal: Breaks down waterproof makeup and SPF gently without harsh rubbing or the need for additional micellar water
Cooking: Stable at high heat thanks to its saturated fat content, suitable for frying, roasting and baking, and a popular substitute for butter in vegan recipes
Massage: A natural carrier oil base for massage, alone or blended with essential oils, without the greasy residue of some mineral-based oils
Lip and cuticle care: A small dab works well on dry lips or rough cuticles

Because it contains no additives, preservatives or fillers, it solidifies below around 24°C and turns liquid above that, this is completely normal and doesn’t affect quality or potency. Simply stand the bottle in warm water for a few minutes, or rub a small amount between your palms, if you want it in liquid form for application.

How to use on hair: Apply to dry hair before washing, focusing on mid-lengths to ends, and leave for 30 minutes to overnight before shampooing as normal. For very dry or damaged hair, this can be done once or twice a week as part of a regular pre-poo treatment routine.

How to use on skin: Apply a small amount to damp skin after showering to lock in moisture, focusing on drier areas like elbows, knees and heels.

How to use in cooking: Use as a 1:1 substitute for butter or other cooking oils in most recipes – it has a mild coconut flavour that works particularly well in baking, curries, and stir-fries.

Who it’s for: Suitable for most skin and hair types, though those with very oily or acne-prone skin may find it heavy if used on the face in larger amounts – a small dab is usually plenty.
